Welsh Gower Salt Marsh Lamb has become the first food stuff in the Uk to be granted secured standing soon after Brexit.
The dish, from lambs reared on the Gower Peninsula, has been registered under the UK’s new Geographical Indicator scheme created to shield its distinctive taste and characteristics.
The GI label is a British version of the EU safeguarded standing plan which guards the geographical origin of foods like Parma ham, champagne and feta.
But the Gower lamb and other GI foodstuff will only be afforded the Protected Designation of Origin within the British isles.
Verified producers can use the GI emblem on their meat.
